    Funny Feeding Experience

A few weeks ago I fed my 600 gram female a small rat. She has been eating frozen/thawed small rats for a while now. When I offered the rat to her she constricted like normal and "squeezed" for a few minutes and released. After releasing she will usually slither around her "kill" for a while and then consume her meal.

After she initially constricted and released I went to another room to do something and I entered the room where she was and she was constricting the rat again! A double constriction for one meal!

I thought it was rather funny. Did she see the rat moving again?? Anyone else ever had this experience?

I've seen where a snake will constrict and then come back later to eat the prey, but I've never seen a snake constrict more than once on a dead prey. Odd, but in a good way.

I've seen them unwrap and as their body moves it makes the rat move and they coil it again.

I have one that will constrict his prey for a long time. Then he lets go and rubs all over it. Rubs his head on it...rubs his chin on it, crawls all over it a few times constatntly rubbing himself on the prey ....then eats it.

My snake likes to smell his a lot. Or else that's what it looks like...after he constricts and releases he crawls around it and noses it all over. You can see the fur move from his breath!

A couple of my snakes like to do this too. Usually it comes with some open mouth then take mouth off and sniff around more... but when they get to the head, they latch on and finish it off. It is funny to watch, since I know where the prey's head is, it just seems funny ha ha to me.
