    Ahhh my thermostat failed.

My brand new ranco thermostat failed. I just got home and my enclosure was at 106 degrees.
    1. How harmful is that to my BP’s.
    2. What should I get to replace the ranco since I don’t want another one at this point?

Until I can order a new one what should i do, in the mean time?

P.S. I got it at a show and it was susposed to be new but I think it was really used.

    1. temps at that temperature aren't bad if it was for a short amount of time. (few hours).

Are you sure the probe didn't slip out somewhere or that the unit is set to 106?

Where did you get the unit from?

I got the unit from a person at a local reptile show in Arlington texas. I checked it, its set at 92 and the probe is where i have had it all along. It just appears to not be working (wierd). It couldnt have been more than 6 hours and they did not run away to the cool end that stayed at 83, so they should be ok?

Oh shoot, hopefully it wasn't at that temp for too long and your snakes had enough sense to move, though, they don't always. I would keep an eye on them for burns and hard spots. Hopefully they are all ok.

My suggestion is to get a dimmer from a home improvement store, sometimes Walmart carries them. It's a lamp dimmer and you can keep the temps fairly stable with it as long as your room doesn't fluctuate too much. It's a good temporary fix. You just have to remember that your dimmer does not adjust, so if your room changes temps your heat source will also change.
