    What Size Tank?

Ok, I have seen so many differing opinions on this, I wanted to do a poll.

What size tank/vivarium do you use for an adult ball python...approximatly 42 inches long?

    1. 20L
    2. 40L
    3. Larger than 40 - please elaborate.
    4. Don't use tanks, use ___________ (fill in name of type of enclosure, and size)

    Thank you everyone.

    Re: What Size Tank?

For adult males I would use a 32qt tub, for females a 42qt tub.

In terms of tank, 20L for a male, 30 breeder for a female.

    Re: What Size Tank?

My big boy is in a 20 gallon tank right now. He's about ~40" long and ~1300 grams, it's a perfect fit. When my rack is built, I'll probably put him in a 27qt tub, possibly without a hide.

    Re: What Size Tank?

The standard used to be add the width and the length of the tank and it should be larger than the length of the tank. So if you have a tank that is 12inches wide and 36 inches long, you SHOULD be able to house a snake up to 47 inches long. Don't really agree with it. I think a Ball Python that large should be housed in a tank that is at least 18-20 wide. I feel you've got to give the snake room to turn around.

But to answer your polling question, I really like Tubs.

    Re: What Size Tank?

I also use tubs: 41qt for all adults, regardless of gender.

I used to have my 4' female in a 40-gallon breeder, and she loved it.

    Re: What Size Tank?

I had my big male in a 50 gal tank (36 X 18 X 18). I put him in a 60qt tub (35 X 19 X 7) and his feeding response got alot better and more consistant. It basically had the same floor space but only about 1/3 the height. In case you are wondering the snake's 54" and 2300g...

    Re: What Size Tank?

We only have 2 babies so I can only answer to that size snake. We have one in a 20 gal tank and one in a Herpcage 24x12x12. The tank has the standard 2 hides and waterbowl. The Herpcage has added foliage for more clutter.
