    is it any better....

My daughters bday is coming up and she asked for a beardy to go along with her BP. Is it any better to have more than 1 beardy in one tank. I know alot of people say once you buy one you will always want more but thats not the ?. Is there any advantage to having them paired up

No. It is wayyy better to have them alone. They are terretorial animals and will not always get along. males will always fight and male-female the male will constantly rape the female. female female MIGHT work if they are from the same clutch same age and size and they have a BIG space beardies need room. and one mouth is way easier to feed then two. especially with their voracious appetites

not to sound rude, but have you researched bearides, beautifuldragons.com is a great place and beardieddragon.org, not shunning this place but beardies can be a expensive or as i joke with my gf, a money pit. Babies eat about 60 crix a day, you can order them online super cheaper and keep them in a rubbermaind container. if you know this sorry, but for a babie a 20 long is alright, must have a UVB, get a reptisun 10.0 not from store, there about 50 dollars. go to reptilesupply and get one for like 22.00 dollars. instead of paying for an expensive basking bulb, a floodlight or normal light works well, if your house get below 65 degrees at night get a CHE(cermic heat emitter) the get hot with no light, regardless of what pet stores say, beardies can see the blue and red lights. for an adult a 40 breeder works out fine, if you have a 40 breder, you can use an MVB(mercury vapor bulb) does the job of UVB and basking light, also on tanks, you can get GREAT deals on craiglist. sorry to write a book, but i know a lotta people or mis-informed and if you know all of this, sorry

i ment to say 20 long is alright for babies and 40 breeder, is the littlest size an adult can go in, a 40 breeder just means the side are wider.

plan and simple... no there are no advantages unless your breeding, but there are countless disadvantages.

To answer your question, it is hard to stop wanting another once you see how fun and loving a beardie can be, but if you do happen to get another, it should have a different set up.

Advantages - You save a little cash and space

Disadvantages You are putting a pet you are responsible for's life in danger. Usally the only time you see pairs is during breeding season, by an experianced keeper with years and beardies under their belts, or by people with sick dragons who do not know what they are doing, and are lowering their dragons life expectancy.

Males will fight males once they reach maturity
Males will breed females to death
and Female and Female can have Dominance issues.

Even if you do decide to try Female and Female, they need to be the same size and age, and you will need to Qt them for a few months in a seperate part of the house. They both will need their stools checked by a vet as well. So regardless if it works or not for three or four months you have to have a seperate set up anyways, So your really not saving in cash, and not space for a while.

Beardies are solitary creatures, they do not want cage mates or " Friends "

    Hope this helps - Matt

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

    Re: is it any better....

Beardies can even have issues with seeing another beardie in another tank. I had two female clutch mates together and they started showing dominance issues and they had to be put in their own tanks and they were only 4 months old. Even hatchling beardies can and will show aggression against each other. I have 6 beardies and they are all in separate cages and I wouldn't have it any other way. I hope you find a great beardie because I wouldn't know what to do without mine.
