    Looks like RI

Brought the new Borneo to see the snake Doctor today. She has some bubbly mucus in the back of her mouth. Doc suggested that we start her on some Amikacin until the culture results come back. I gave her the first injection today, its one injection every 3 days. Doc gave me three doses and said it should do until the test results return from the lab.
I forgot to ask if it is ok to feed her with the meds. This is the first time that I have to treat an RI.

    Poor snakey!

What are your temps and humidity?

Amikacin is a real "drying" antibiotic known as an Aminoglycoside.

    DON'T feed

Soak the animal every day for 30 to 60 minutes to help keep the kidneys flushed. Did the vet do a loading dose on the first shot?

Make sure to do a full months worth of treatment with ANY drug the Culture and Sensitivity test comes back with as being an effective one.

    Re: Looks like RI

Warm side 86. The far end of the cool side is at 80. I have an oil radiator type heater set on a Johnson’s controls thermostat to keep the ambient temp a little higher around 84 on the warm side. Humidity is about 75 right now. I also am keeping the room heated to about 79, so it is never to terribly cold in here. I am typing this in shorts and a t shirt.
Thank you for bringing up the soak, I almost forgot about that. I will soak her tomorrow as I don’t have the heart to bother her right now. It has been a stressful day.
I will be sure to treat for a full month once we know for sure what antibiotic will do the job.
    Also I will not feed.
