    Flexwatt

Hey I just go in my 11" flexwatt (3 ft long). I only need 6 inches of it for the heating of my rack. Can I cut in the center of the flexwatt. I ask cuz I see it's divided into sections of 3, each foot is a section with a doted line that says cut here. Do I have to actually cut there or can it be in the middle of the heat tape.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I might be wrong but I sem to remember the 11" flexwat having instructions not to cut it in sections less than a foot long?

If you wanted 6" panels you should really have bought 6" flexwatt or doubled up 3" or 4"

Also I am a little confused - are you talking about cutting across the flexwatt in your post or from top to bottom?

I.e. between the lines or across the lines between the two edges?

I wouldn't do it. That black stuff inside is actually conductive ink. It will leak out if you cut through it. Only cut on the lines.

Across the 11" width so I still have the connection strips.
Also if I did cut it can I just tape it off? And cut in a V formation so nothing bad happens?
Or can I just bend it in half and tape it 1 half on top of the other.
And I didn't see 6" flexwatt. I looked at Apple and RBI and they only had 3,4, or 11. And seeing connectors are 5 bucks a pop doubling up 3" flexwatt would cost WAY to much.

    Hi,

When you cut it yes you put non-conductive electrical tape across both exposed ends of the side strip.

Would it have cost less than throwing this stuff away and buying the 4" stuff anyway?

I would phone Rich at reptile basics and ask him about cutting it into smaller than 12" lengths before doing anything.

Can you describe your rack and tubs to see if there is a way to use it in the larger size?

Do NOT fold it - that will almost certainly ruin it and possibly be a fire hazard to boot.

Also you can solder the wires on if you know how or know someone who does.

But ask Rich what he recommends - and if he says no then accept it.

I don't get it. All the videos and all the decriptions I read on this stuff they all say "cut to the length you want" I don't get how I can't cut it to the length I want.....

the 11" can only be cut into 1ft sections, if you want shorter sections you have to go with the 3" or 4" those you can cut anywhere between the lines you want from 3" to 20ft. none of them can be cut lenth wise.

Well I guess I'm just gonna do back heat now. Also I know with back heat the room temps need to be higher but if it doesn't get to that can I have flexwatt above the tub (shelve roof) to heat the cool side?

    Hi,

Is it only for a hatchling rack?

I'm wondering what size the tubs are that an 11" x 12" piece is too large.

Well just talked to Rich and he said u can cut the heat tape. He said just that I will prob have a 1" dead zone where the cut was and I just need to put electrical tape on the ends.
