    Anyone have any BCS??

These one of my favorite boa's and Im hoping to get a pair of pure blood pearl islands before long. Sabogae would be acceptable but I really want a pair of true peal island BCS. (yea they are different)

Everyone here has BCI & BCC. Where are the BCS?

Any pics of your Sabogae, pearl island, or any other panama locality boas? Id love to see them

    Re: Anyone have any BCS??

I have a pair of Sabogaes. They are my absolute favorite boas. From what I have read, "Pearl Island" is just another name for Sabogae boas They actually come from the Island Sabogae, but people have coined the name Pearl Island instead. I bought them from Jeff Carr of West Coast Constrictor. They came with Cites paperwork that proves they are from Sabogae. Here is an old picture of the male. I will have to post a more recent picture soon.

Edit - After doing some reading, I realized the Pearl Islands is a group of Islands off the coast of Panama. Sabogae is one of the Islands. However, all of the boas imported from these Islands are called Boa constrictor sabogae.

    Re: Anyone have any BCS??

The ones from the islands are authentic.. But there are many being marketed as such but they came from the mainland of panama. This is where the problem comes in. The ones from panama are not true sabogae - pearl island boas. This boa looks so much like the salmon hypo that its believed thats actually where the salmon hypo BCI came from. By being crossed.

I was able to find out that only 5 were imported in 2005 with the help of a zoo. These are the only 5 true pure blood imports ever to be brought into the USA. All sabogae's sold should be direct descendants of those 5 otherwise they are not the real deal. I guess there is not real visual difference between the sabogae and many salmon hypo BCI's. This is a shame because I believe in keeping these bloodlines alive. The very reason I got 2 Surinams and will never cross them with anything else.

If I get a pair im getting them from Vin Russo. He has 2 of 3 surviving original imports from that 2005 collection. From more recent reports of a breeders trip to the islands not a single boa was found. They are believed to be extinct in the wild now. So if yours is the real deal get another one to breed them and keep the species alive

BTW, little miss butter is still on strike. She laughed in my face when I told her I wanted to get her up to weight to breed and hasnt eaten since! Now im hoping for a little luck in that department lol.

Beautiful boa there too. I stare at the ones on vins page and just *sigh*

    Hi Monica,

You are right. There were only five imported from Sabogae. Rich Ilhe of SalmonBoa.com received some of them. Rich bred the boas, and sold a pair of hatchlings to Jeff Carr at West Coast Constrictor. Jeff bred his boas, and sold me a pair in 2008. Brian Taylor (BT41042) also bought a pair from Jeff from the same litter as mine. Here is a post from BT when he first got his in. He also included the Cites document that Jeff shipped him. I have a copy of the same documents, since mine were from the same litter. http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...hlight=sabogae

    Re: Anyone have any BCS??

So Eddie... when are you going to breed them and sell me one so I can have an unrelated pair of Island decendants? One from you and one from Vin. Sounds like a plan to me. So I'll get my female from him since they are ready to go now and a male from you so he will be ready for my girl when the time comes

Sounds like a plan. I can't wait until mine are large enough to breed. They eat ravenously, even when in shed. However, I only feed them weekly. I imagine that they will be ready in another two years.

BTW, one very cool thing about Sabogaes are that they change colors from light to dark during different times of the day. Mine are also very docile. Unlike my Nics.
