    problems/questions with rheostat

    Hi guys and gals,

So I've got a few BPs coming in a few weeks. The room where I keep my exotic pets is chilly in the winter, just around 72F. But I've been working on getting my enclosures perfected for the BPs and what I've come up with is Sterilite tubs (12 quart cause the BPs are still small), with two Zoomed UTHs on each one. I've got the "cool" side hooked up to a rheostat at it seems to be hovering around 82F right now and the hot side around 95F. Ambient air temps are in high 70s and humidity around 60%. I think the BPs will be just fine, right?

But my question is this: why the heck do the UTHs get so hot? I've got the rheostat all the way down to maximum low before it clicks off on the "cool" side and that only gets me down to 82F. And the rheostat is only dialed up not even half way for the hot side and it's already 95F.

Just to see what would happen I let one of the UTHs go without any rheostat and it got to over 110F! Is there any animal that needs that much heat?

If you have a larger tank then you need more heat to get it up to temps! I always thought they should come with built in thermostat or at least a rheostat because I don't know any reptile that would use them as is!
