    My breeding project

in two years i want to start breeding ball pythons..

as of now i have a female normal ball about 6 months old.. not sure got it from a pet store..

and a 7 or 8 month old female leman pastel thats 50% pos het Axanthic...

my plan was to in 6 months to 1 year to buy a male bumble bee 100% het axanthic to try to prove out my pastel.

well today i started thinking.. im going to buy a 5 tub rack and i will only have 3 snakes total.. so ill have 2 free tubs and started thinkng of a lot of things.. im not sure if i should stick with my 2 females and one male (for my 1st breeding project) or if i should get 2 more females to breed to my male..

what do you al think i should do?

if i do get 2 more females the 1st one would be a lesser mabye one that is 100% het axanthic

and does anyone have any idea how much a leser 100% het axanthic would be?

and what would you suggest getting for my other female to breed to my bumble bee 100% het Axanthic and what would be some posible offspring of whatever you think i should get to my bumblebee???

    any info would help! thanks!!!!

    Re: My breeding project

How much money are you planning on spending? If it is pretty high, get an axanthic bee from BHB or someone. Or you could go cheap and get an axanthicXwhatever to mix with the pastel pos het axanthic. The normal is pretty much a breeder for hets and doms in your case so she doesn't really count in the equation. I say spring the money for top notch stuff if you can but get a 100% het axanthic fem also just in case your pastel proves otherwise.

I don't think all axanthics are compatible, so what yours is would play a significant role.

A bumblebee would be in the $500-$700 range and to add het axanthic anything would bring it close to $2,000 I would assume.

If you want to prove that 50% female axanthic you have I would first find out which axanthic it was and get a 100% male of that type and avoid the cost of combos.

The female normal you have I would just keep her fed and keep her comfortable incase you want to breed her later.

With what I have described you have five slots and three snakes. Think carefully about what two snakes you want in the other two slots.

    Re: My breeding project

oh yeah i know its a vpi... and i talked to the breeder i got my pastel from and he told me he will have bumble bees 100% het vpi axanthic for sale next season.. and he is asking 1,000 for a male... his normal bumble bees are 650... i got that part figured out already.. im just not sure if i should stick with my normal and pastel to breed to my bumble bee.. or if i should get 2 more snakes.. the reason im not sure is it will be my 1st breeding project.. and i could do it all wrong and not hatch out anything which ment i spent prolly around $3,000 (cost of snakes and rack) and thats a lot of money for me..

If you hatch out nothing, there's always the year after that--as long as you keep your animals properly and they're healthy, you have some room to experiment with breeding them.

Dont think about filling your rack right off the bat.. ALways leave some empty tubs. Where are the babies going to go?? They will eventually each need their own tub so dont forget about building another rack for young snakes.

look around at what you like and buy into something you like. think what else you would want to breed the bee to, cinnamon would be one of my choices.
