    Tapeworms?

Okay, I'm currently spending Christmas down with my boyfriend's family in Georgia, my mom's watching the house, taking care of the snakes and everything while we're gone and when I called her today she informed me my cats have tapeworms...yay, inconvenient but tapeworm dewormed is fairly easy to get and treat. But, can snakes get tapeworms? It's not like they're in direct contact with the snakes or anything. But I also breed my rats and mice, I'm not sure if they have tapeworms, too or can even get them from cats. So many vets give me varying stuff, about a half that I talk to say worms from cats, dogs, and so on can't infect an animal of another species while others say they can...thus my confusion. So, does anybody know if tapeworms could travel via cat to snake, or mouse/rat to snake?

Cats get tapeworms from fleas. Oh and roaches too. But mainly fleas.

If not mistaken tape worm only able to survive in warm blooded mammals.

And fleas dont harm snakes at all since they are cold blooded so i wouldn't worry at all. If you have provent a mite on hand at the house have your mom treat the snake cages with it to keep the fleas from irritating the snake.

All right, I just treated all the cages about a week ago for mites with PaM so it should be fine.

    Re: Tapeworms?

I should've been more specific. Cats get tapeworms when they swallow the fleas. Since your snake doesn't eat fleas....

    Re: Tapeworms?

Snakes wouldn't be able to get tapeworms from a cat because the parasite is usually species specific.
