Different size heat pads on same thermostat?
Im gona try and not confuse anyone on this haha.
I have 2 zoomed 10-20 gal heat pads on my bp and leo enclosures on the same thermostat.
I need to get my BP a bigger heat pad, but not my leo. Would i be able to get a 30-40 gal heat pad for my BP, but keep the 10-20 heat pad in the leos enclosure, and keep them hooked up to the same thermostat? Would one heat pad get to hot or to cold?
Is anybody currently doing this?

That wouldn't work. One would be too hot and one would be too cold. You'd be better off getting a dimmer switch for one and then fine tuning it to the perfect temp. Good luck! ~Caylan.S.~

you -could- do it but you would risk one of them overheating because they are not the same wattage.

I have done this by running a rheo inline between the smaller heatpad and the thermostat (assuming thermostat probe is on the large pad). The larger the difference in load (size of heatpad) the greater the risk.
In saying that, this should not be a permanent solution.

Re: Different size heat pads on same thermostat?
I definitely wouldn't do it. Those are different sizes and have different power requirements. So the t-stat will put out different amounts of power depending on which one the probe is over.
i.e. if you have the probe over the larger one, it will supply enough power to heat it, but that will be more power than is needed for the smaller one. Conversely the opposite would be true if you had the probe over the smaller one, it would supply less power and hte large one wouldn't get hot enough.
Get another t-stat, or if you're on a super budget or need it ASAP, make or buy a rheostat.

Different sizes would heat differntly, there would be no way of controling them accurately.
