Question MVB do I need it?

I have Hanley set up in a 55gal ( I posted pics in a diff thread) I have a 10.0 uvb bulb and a 5.0 uvb tube for him plus a SUNGLO 75w heat bulb.. I looked online as to what a MVB is.. I know its a Mercury Vapor Bulb, and it gives off higher uvbs and heat if it is a self ballasted and Externally ballasted dont give off much heat.

What I'm tryin to say is, is my setup ok for this size tank, or should I switch somethings? If so what are they, and if you have some pics of the way it should be done can you please post them.. Thank you in advance

    Cheers

Re: MVB do I need it?

The nice thing about MVB is one bulb does it all. It produces UV and heat. I run some setups with just one MVB for a basking spot. I also have other setups with the reptisun 10.0 bulbs but then you also need a heat source. I wouldnt use MVB in small setups as it may heat up too much and you do need a certain distance from the animal. Sounds like you are OK with your current setup but the MVB are an alternative.

From the looks of your picture thread you do not have the right bulbs. Im thinking you have a compact bulb, which you need to get rid of right now. A mvb seems like the best thing for your tank.

I think your using the ones that spiral,

    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?t=83658

Id get either one from Reptileuv.com, or a T-rex 100 watt MVB bulb. MVBs are heat and uvb, so you shouldnt need any extra heat in the basking spot.
