A quick question about hoppers
Hey ya'll I have had to buy my hoppers a day or 2 early the past couple of weeks because the local feeder stores are closed Sundays and Mondays which are the 2 days my snake feedings fall on which means I have hoppers for sometimes 2 days, And I feed my snakes live and I know mice like all creatures if they don't eat they get mean. I was wondering is their anything around the house to feed them like dog food or veggies or fruit that would at least keep them from being super hungry and mean. Also will they calm down if I put toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls for them to chew on. One more question, If I fed them dog food would it be anything that would bother my snakes. Sorry for the stupid questions I have always been into reptiles and never the fuzzy creatures so I don't know much about them.

Re: A quick question about hoppers
It seems like the most simple thing to do would be to change your feeding day to one that is most convenient to pick up your feeders... Right?
If that doesn't seem feasible, dog food will absolutely work for the time being. There's really nothing in them that will harm your rodents (or snakes). And toilet paper rolls are definitely a good idea to keep 'em busy!

Re: A quick question about hoppers
Yes Mitch that would be the easiest for sure but some of my snakes are on a 5 day and some are on a 7 day schedule. So sooner or later their day will fall back on a Sunday or Monday. I appreciate the info.

Re: A quick question about hoppers
Honestly man if you have an extra aquarium or even an extra tub sitting around just put a bowl of dog food in there, a toilet paper roll and a lot of crumpled or shredded newspaper so they can hide and stuff. A water bottle for small animals is $3.50 so just pick one of those up and you can always keep your rodents a few days later. Personally i have an extra rat cage that i used to have my dumbo's in, now its the "snake food that wasn't eaten when it was supposed to" cage.

if your talking about feeding the rats/mice they like anything really, crackers, pizza crust, bird seed the chunky stuff, literally you can just put stuff in the tank and they'll try it dog food would prob work i dont see why not. just give things a try.

Re: A quick question about hoppers
Seriously...Ya'll are kidding right?? Dog food is for dogs.... I wouldn't use the other foods mentioned either. Remember what goes into your feeders also goes into your snakes! I would get a small bag of mazuri 6F, or other rodent diets, found at your local pet store.
