    Nearly had a headless pied

Just moved my pieds in to 33ltr tubs..put them in the top shelf of the rack forgetting their was a 10mm gap..the male (600g) escaped..the female (1200g) was stuck by the neck, lucky I didnt rip her head off opening the tub, got her out ok eventually..sooooo lucky..found the boy no problem..its amazing how little a gap they need, just to warn others they can flatten their bodies to get under gaps..this gap was just a bit small for the girl

Re: Nearly had a headless pied

I've had my snakes in a tub with a gap more than that for a while. Unless they're under 200g they won't be able to get through that small of a gap. I don't trust putting my hatchling.

I don't trust any colubrids with any gap though, they're much better at flattening themselves out.

Re: Nearly had a headless pied

Oddly enough, I had the same experience last night! My rack was unfortunately made to hold tubs with lids, so I've been boosting them up with furniture sliders (only on the big tubs). Well, Nerissa did the same trick as your snake, and got her head stuck in the gap on top. I was in bed watching TV, and just heard a whole commotion coming from her tub... when I went to check she snapped her head back in, pulling off a few scales along the way.

She has a small abrasion on the bottom of her chin now, but luckily seems fine otherwise. Oh, and I put the lid back on her tub after that! Glad to hear your snake is fine, and this is a good warning to the other keepers.
