    Shedding question

Upon looking at my new BP under a light, I noticed that there's a slight blue sheen to the scales and on the head, is this a possible sign the snake will be shedding soon? It's only noticable at a certain angle under a bright light. I've had the snake for about 24 hours now, but as of right now the eye caps are very clear. I don't know when the last shed was. Some of the scales look old or damaged in a few places, so I don't believe it's shed anytime recently. I checked very carefully and I don't see any evidence of mites, just some the scales are rough looking.

    Re: Shedding question

More than likely, no. Most BPs have something of an 'iridescent sheen'. It's actually most noticeable AFTER they have shed. Here's some tell-tale signs to look for though, to help you in the future:

    1. A pink belly - just like it says, their underside will become noticeably pinker.
    2. Skin wrinkles.
    3. And last, but not least, the blue stage.

If you haven't heard already, the eyes will fade back to normal just a day or two before the actual shed.

Once you become more in tune with your BP, it will take just a glance to know when they're in shed.
