They're not interested in each other

I've been pairing up my lesser male and my normal female for a few weeks now and I keep finding them curled up in the same hide, but not doing anything. My lesser is producing sperm plugs and my female is 1350 grams empty (probably a little heavier now as she's had a few meals since I last weighed her). The temps in both cages have been dropping very slightly below normal (just because it's colder outside) about 87 on the hot side, with a slightly warmer hot spot, 80 ambient, humidity staying around 65 - 70 percent. They are both eating regularly (which came as a surprise to me, this time last year my female was fasting). The male has been especially explorative lately in his own cage when by himself, but when with the female he tends to hide more, which I suppose is good but still not great. There is a low pressure system coming our way, which I hope will liven things up a bit. I've tried pairing them up right after the female had a meal, to no avail. The lesser is the only male I have, so I can't put him together with another breeding male to stimulate him (as I've seen suggested in some places). I'm hoping that I can get a breeder to mail me a shed from a breeding male and a breeding female (as I will soon be getting an animal shipped to me anyway) that I can stick in their enclosures with them. Do you guys have any ideas/tricks? This is my first time trying this.

Re: They're not interested in each other

Its early here in So Cal. Plus its been warm...

I would suggest trying the shed thing, and maybe the sperm plug from a competitive male on the females back.

    But... It's early.

I am not getting for sure locks right now either.

This part of the country tends to go later than those with snow.

So I guess I'm just trying to say be patient. It's early.

Thanks guys. I figured it was still pretty warm, but I didn't want to leave it too late either. I suppose all I can do is keep trying. :-/

Re: They're not interested in each other

I'm not cooling mine, their temps are still warm and they are still being fed, and my male pastel has been breeding with two females for about a month now. He was mildly interested at first, but once I had another male in the room (Not the enclosure) he began copulating.

1350 isn't 1500. She's not really an adult yet, so there's a good chance she won't breed for you this year.

BG cools them more than that, and he cuts the lighting also. GRRRRR. BG doesn't mind giving husbandry advice, but breeding tips are much harder for BG to part with(purely bizz reasons). Feel privileged that he gave you these two tiny ones.

We have an optimist here. There is no guarantee of anything, although with Balls it's almost guaranteed.
