    Hi,

Well before taking away the hide there are a few things to rule out first.

It may be she doesn't find the cool side hide you have at the moment secure enough and prefers the warm end hide.

Your temps may be slightly off and either the inside of the cool end hide is too cool for her or the hot end hide isn't warm enough for her to get to her desired body temp with short visits so she camps there.

Or she could just be a goof.

Stick the probe from the acurite inside the hides for a day or so each to get an idea how the temps change during the day/ night cycle just to rule that one out.

If both hides are the same then option 1 doesn't make sense either.

Mine does the same thing, she only will go in the hide on the warm side. She does go to the cool side sometimes but when she does she ends up around the hide but not inside it. Its kinda weird lol

Mine's the total opposite, he stays in his cool box all day and only goes in to the warm end box after he eats.
At night he'll roam around a little and then end back in the cool end. Funny lil guy.

If the hides are exactly the same, the obvious answer is temperature related, or Charlie is indeed a goof.

Hard to tell with just one snake but when entire racks of snakes start hanging out on one side or the other it's time to look at the temperatures.

I would probably bump it up just a bit.

I had that problem too. It was because my ambient air temps werent warm enough, so he just hung out in his warm side. Now that I got my air temps up he wanders between both hides.

Re: Charlie only goes in one hide?

Well what are the temps under each of the hides? You should think about it like this. Your snake does not want to move between the two hides all day. Your snake wants to find the right temp and stay there till its hungry. Your temp on the warm side might be just right. So as long as your warm side is warm enough I don't think you have a problem. Keep in mind your snake digestion works the best at the high end of its ideal temp range. I would worry more if my BP was not using her warm hide.

Well, I guess the question for me is this: what's your motivation for wanting to take it out? Even if your snake isn't using it right now, I don't see what it hurts to leave it in there in case he ever wants to use it in the future.
Mountain bikes are for slow people, and reptiles are far better pets than cats & dogs!
