Cooling Ball Pythons

Ive been hearing that if you cool bps and breed them, then they is a good chance for RI to pop up. Is that true? Even if the humidity is high?

Here's the thing - all ball pythons carry the bacteria that can turn into an RI. You want to reduce the layers of stress that you put on them, to reduce the chances of that turning into a full blown RI. Breeding itself is a stressful time for them. Other changes that you put them through can also cause stress. Reduce the amount of stress, and you reduce your chances of contracting an RI.

However, most breeders who breed large numbers will tell you that RI's do pop up during breeding season. It's up to you as the keeper to KNOW your animals, and be able to intervene and get them treated as quickly as possible.

Not that I'm aware of. However, I've personally never had an RI in my collection (I've probably just jinxed myself now).

It's certainly another layer of stress on them during breeding season. Can I say conclusively that cooling will cause an RI in all ball pythons? Absolutely not - each animal is going to react differently to different stimuli.

have you tired just putting your male and female together? alot of people this year have been reporting that they didn't need to do crap to get alot of their collection to breed, even some big breeders are reporting this.

and I wouldn't worry about the RI, if it pops up treat it ASAP, simple as that. cooling the temp doesn't automatically make them get RI.

I haven't touch the hot spot temp and have had multi lock-ups Since the start. I started the 1st of Oct.. I let the outside temp cool the cool side of the tubs and that should be enough to trigger them that its time.
