switching to tubs, 1 quick question

yes, I'm finally going to do it. Picked up one of these, but the tubs are more shallow.

I was wondering. Should I put a Acu-Rite in each tub? How do you measure the temps in each tubs.

Also, for this size, how many holes do you think I should use?

Thank you! Now all I need is some flexwat and a few water dishes. I'm so excited to finally do this. Sick of tanks

these aren't really recommended for snakes.. The gaps in the drawers are WAY to big for ball pythons and they can escape.

here are some threads on the topic:

They also come apart if you pull on them. A full grown adult will be out of those in a matter of minutes when they get the notion to do so. Definitely not escape proof

Locking tubs to sit on flexwatt heat tape, plugged into a thermostat.
Cheap, efficient, and a simple shelving unit is all that's required.

Re: switching to tubs, 1 quick question

Ok, thought of all that first. Sorry I did not post all this.

The picture shown is not the actual model I have, I could not find it. Mine have shallow-er tubs, and the gaps in the drawers are not significant. I do not have a camera to show you, but I would say less than a quarter of an inch, less than.

Mine also lock in place, they have pieces of hard hard plastic keeping them from coming out too far when the tubs are pulled out of the holder. Mine are also not stackable, so they do not pull apart.

I understand you trying to help, but I thought of all that before purchasing this. As of right now, the space it takes up is PERFECT for where I need to fit it, so locking tubs are not really an option for me.

So, should I put some sort of thermometer in all the tubs? How many holes?

Re: switching to tubs, 1 quick question

I would be concerned that a hatchling would try and push its way out of a 1/4" gap.

Have you thought of building a rack that fits the dimension of space you have?

How are you heating that drawer thing? I would just get a temp gun and check temps once a day rather than having a thermometer in each tub.

Drill about 10 holes to start and see how the humidity is in the tub (make sure you put in a water bowl with water in it). If the humidity is too high, make more holes. It really just depends on the climate you live in. There is no set number of holes.

If you can make it work, then by all means go for it. Just be aware that many people have problems with that kind of tub setup and usually ditch it very soon for a rack setup.
