help and advice on breeding rats

I currently breed mice for my corns and pythons but as my mice stock is running low I decided to go to the pet shop today and treat my adult to a rat instead today, but at €4.30 was thinking a bit expensive.

Can anyone give me any advice on whats needed to breed rats or some pictures of set ups would be great.

Re: help and advice on breeding rats

i have been breeding rats for about 5 years now and it is realy easy as long as you can handel the smell or have the money to buy major air purifiers like i was finely able to do. i use home built shelf that mesure 4'(L)x6"(D)x howerver tall you want. each shelf is 10" on center. i use 46 i think quart tubs they are easyest to retro fit i use my jig saw to cut holes in the top like 10"x10" or so and hot glue metal screen to the top i use the kind with 1/4" gaps so babys cant get out i keep females and males apart until its time to breed then put a male in with a femal for a week then pull the male. rats will get lonely and in my experience they will start getting taritorial and kill eachother so it is best to keep 2+ males in a tub and 2+ females in a tub and move them as needed. i lay the biggest bottles i can get from the pet shop on top keep them over half full so they always have water. im sure there is a store near you where you can get lab diet for rodents its the best to make them the most nutritus for your snakes if you need to know anything else let me know. i know i jump around allot i just cant keep everything straight forword

I would say all you need is a cage or tank about 10gal or 20gal water bottle and food dish. How many rats do you need is wut u need to ask urself. How many snakes do you have?
