Substrate like Equine Pine which is pine pellets, very absorbent and cut down on the smell.

Can be found at the tractor supply for 6.00 (40 lbs bags).

A little goes a long way.

Use it as main substrate when your rats are breeding and in combination with wood shaving for nursing rats with litters under 2 weeks old.

Keeping them frozen will solve the problem.
