Asap need advice
Ok so I went yesterday to get feeder mice for my BP's. The girl that gets my mice came to me with some new snakes. She took out what they have labled as a salmon redtail boa . Beautiful looking snake. I have a 40 gallon breeder tank I figure I can keep it in atleast w years. I have no prob with a big snake and I have a family member who is a carpenter that can make me a custom tank once it needs one. They are selling it for 220. When I held it it was as docile as my ball pythons. Is that a reasonable price. And would you buy from a. Pet store they just got it from a breeder. I hope to get an answer quick . THANKS

Yea you could defiantly house this snake in a 40 breeder but this snake almost sounds to good to be true. You sure that it is a salmon RTB?

That price sounds too good to be true. Can the pet store put you in touch with the breeder? You know what they say about things that are too good to be true...

Re: Asap need advice
This would be my first boa .....let's say its about 20inch or less long and from tail up about 7 or 8 inches its a pinkish color .....I never thought I would get a boa until I layed eyes on that and held it and how easily it was to handle. I'm ready for a big snake. That's why I wasn't sure about the price so who else better to ask than this site. So do I buy or check with breeders online . I've called everyday to make sure its still there . They told me they aren't sure if it will sell because of my location not many people buy the expensive reptiles and I know 220 really isn't that expensive.

Re: Asap need advice
If they said it came directly from a breeder then I think you have every right as a smart buyer to ask for that breeder's contact information. That way you can personally confirm breeding and genetics as well as get a past history on this snake's health, feeding habits and history, confirm gender, etc.
It's not a good deal if they are feeding you a line of bull about where this snake came from originally.

Re: Asap need advice
Ask for the breeders info and call them as stated previously
also ask yourself this if the boa doesnt turn out to be a salmon boa is this boa worth $220 to you?

Re: Asap need advice
Guys, the pet store is under NO obligation to provide their sources to their customers. Saying so is rather silly.
You don't give out your sources to your clients.
Either you believe them, or you don't.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?

Re: Asap need advice
after looking at a few pet stores today who are selling normal red tail boas for 200 if this one turns out not to be a salmon(which the color of this ones tail is no where near red ) im only at about a 20 dollar loss.
