    Is Baytril available OTC?

My big girl has an RI. She had one about six months ago that was treated well with four weekly injections of Baytril.

I'm a bit tight on funds and very tight on time atm. Without a doubt I will take her to our vet if this isn't a possibility. I was just wondering if oral Baytril is available over the counter and if I could weigh her and figure out the dosages myself.

2nd RI in six months -- need to figure out why.

My one of two things is happening

1: Your snake didn't fully get over the RI the first time and it has cropped back up.
2: You have an environmental problem that is making your snake more susceptible to them. I.E. your cooling for breeding; that tub or tank is getting a draft, debris or dust is causing irritation to the air ways. Lots of reasons why they get and keep getting them.

Remember once a Ball python gets an RI they tend to be more prone to get them after.

Thanks, guys. Husbandry and everything is fine, I went over everything with the vet, vet says everything's great. We're guessing that it's merely her immune system. She's been perfectly healthy for the past few years, but these past few months have been nightmarish in terms of health.

What about oral Baytril prescribed and dosed by our vet? What are the pros and cons to oral vs. injections?

I've always used injections, that is all my vets ever have given me in the past. I believe that with the oral baytril it is difficult to know how much is absorbed into the system. The injection is more accurate in regards to the amount that gets absorbed.

Not only that but stress is a main factor in RI's giving an injection is quick 15 seconds or less..

But you go shoving a tube down your already sick snakes throat the go pumping meds in it..Just sounds like your asking for a long fight..

Ask for injections..you save you and the snake loads of stress and problems

Get a culture to make sure Baytril will be effective.

    Ding ding ding!!

Then use the best medication for a full month to ensure you knock the bacteria out of their system.
