Pre Pairing wiegh in
I was planning on starting some pairing up tomorrow and just finished weighing everyone in.
My normal female came in really light, less than 900 grams, she will not be ready until next season.
The pastel female weighed in at 1467 grams, so I think I will try to get a few more meals in her before trying to pair her up.
The albino female has been packing on weight, never misses a meal, she weighed 1858 grams.
All the males are ready, ranging from 900 to 1400 grams.
I plan to pair the albino and the het, and pair the spider with the pastel as long as she puts on a few grams over the next few weeks.
Does it seem like this is the right way to go?
First year that I will any of them will be ready and I'm really excited to get started.

How old are the Females bolded?
If the Pastel female is in her third year I would throw the male at her anyways she is good size.
I wouldn't give up on the Normal Female just yet you have a few more weeks to pack some weight on that girl and if she is an 07 give her a shot
Cheers!

If he does that then his pastel will be bred to the Het albino. . . If he had more selection than yes the Spider to albino would be a good choice, but if it's his first year and he pops out albinos and a bumblebee or two I would say thats a great first year

Re: Pre Pairing wiegh in
All of the girls are late 07s and only in their 2nd season, this is why I am reluctant to start them even a little shy of the 1500 mark.
The normal girl, i suspect, was a captive hatch. She eats sporadically and does not put on weight as fast as the others. She will not be breed this year.
If I can get the pastel to break 1600 grams within a few weeks, she will be bred to the spider.
As mentioned earlier, thats what I was going to shoot for this season - some albinos and possibly a bee.

I have an 08 Pewter girl that is 1350 and I'm still breeding her this year. It's up to you, If you want to be on the safe side than wait a year but you can still give it a shot. I've had 400 gram males go aswell.
Cheers!

Re: Pre Pairing wiegh in
I'd tend to agree. If the female is still eating by now and on her 3rd winter and 1200+ grams I will rotate a male with her.
Typically they have continued to eat and put on weight until mid-late winter and will be above 1500g by the time they lay.
Now if it were a 2nd winter female and she was 1200g and not eating...I'd wait. But if she was 1500g I would .
Best of luck!

Thanks for the replies/advice.
The spider is in with the pastel. I was going to put the Het in with the albino at the same time, but he thought today would be better spent in shed.

Re: Pre Pairing wiegh in
Your pastel should be fine, she'll have that weight in just a few more feedings anyhow. If she stops feeding, be prepared to stop pairing, though (at least, I would--I won't breed a female at 1500 if she goes off feed for the winter).
