    Talking Hello, new guy

    Hi everyone,

New here and new to ball pythons. I just rescued one from a fellow who didnt have the time or resources to care for the 3 and a half foot guy. His set up was a bit rough after scouring these forums i have him a nice setup in the 50 gal tanka he came with. Have two UTHs one on warm and one on cool side on dimmers along with a red lamp over the warm side. I have black foam boarf on three sides and foil on the screen top to retain heat since it's cool in the house.

I only have good hide at the moment on the warm side. I will be gettin another for the cool side tomorrow. Right now he is on cypress but once i clean the cage he is going to be bedded on repti bark. I want to make his enclosure more natural. Balls come from a savannah environment right? I just want to show him in his natural setting.

He ate tonight, a adult mouse. I should switch him to small rats soon? Any advice would be great.

    Alan

A big guy like that should get at least a small rat! A mouse is too small for that size of bp but at least he ate for you, thats a good sign! You can cover the top with foam board too because thats where most of the heat is lost. Other than that I think you are doing a great job! Enjoy your new pet!

Also thermostats make life so easy! So you may want to get one! You can get a Repitemp 500R for like $25! They will do the job!
