    Tank to Tub - Advice?

Well, I've heard countless people say it's easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy to maintain proper humidity and temps in a tub or rack system, so I've seriously considered switching.

I've only got one baby BP at the moment, and I'd rather wait until she's older to switch, since I plan on getting at least ONE male to breed with her, and tubs will be easier when that time comes. Reason for this is, I'd feel like it would be such a waste of money and effort to get rid of the tank-specific equipment I had to buy. The UTH package says that once it's peeled off the bottom, it's useless (true or false?). As well as the screen; that would be of no use to me unless I found something else to go in the tank.

Simply put, I'd love to hear a rundown of the basics about tubs and what you guys use: different brands, tubs that are safe and which store to find them in, heating mechanisms (I have NO clue whatsoever about how to use heat tape and these... Helix things I keep hearing about). Thanks, guys! Let me know what works for you!

Sorry for such a long post.

Re: Tank to Tub - Advice?

I'm using sterilite stackable tubs and it works wonderfully (the drawer kind so i had to make some major modifications or they were able to escape but most people just use the regular shoebox storage containers) and you can find it (way cheaper than a tank) at Walmart, Target or any department store that sells plastic stuff. My set-up is newspaper, then aspen, 2 hides, 1 water bowl. Temps are fine and humidity is great (if humidity is running a bit low, I just place the water bowl near the heat source for a while until it's bumped up) and haven't had an incomplete shed yet.

On the subject of the UTH, I'm guessing you're using the sticky pad type--which doesn't stick to tubs to begin with so it doesn't matter if it's peeled off--you'll need aluminum tape anyway if you want to keep using it. Make sure as you're peeling it off not to bend it as that can really damage the UTH and make it unsafe.

What other tank specific equipment did you have to buy besides the screen and the UTH?
Watch and wait; a hapless creature has wandered in wake of my growing hunger. My oh my, don't you look tasty?
Hey traveler, what do you know of wolves?

All that's scaly and reptilian, all that's furry and mammalian, all that swims in the sea, all that flies in the sky--I love each and every one of these precious creatures.
