Will my Ball Python ever like me

So i just recently bought my ball python about a month ago and i was just wondering do any of your guys ball python like their owner.... NOW i know some of you are going to say snakes dont like to be held and that they really dont even like to be bothered but im gonna disagree and say that my BCI loves to be held i can hold her for as long as i want and she has no problem. But my ball python is still a little squirmy so my question is do ball python learn to relax a little????

yeah. mine did. she absolutely loves to be held! alot dont but mine does. and it doesnt stress her out she eats real well. and she has calmed down. she just curls up on my had and chills. but when i put her in the cage she always wants out. so yeah some do like to be held alot. some dont. and she might just want to move around. if its warm enough put him/her in your yard for 20 mins. let them slither around. mine loves it!

Re: Will my Ball Python ever like me

I received a ball python that was handled quite a bit and since I have used it for demonstrations at my son's classroom. As long as it isn't feeding time he seems to like being handled. My other BPs are setup as breeders for the future so they are less likely to be handled as much therfore they are not necessarily liking the handling that the do receive.

Some do not tolerate handling. You can work with them, but some just dont take to it.

Keep handling sessions short and sweet.

Yeah they do eventually settle down. Your Ball python may not be used to human contact that much but over time from handling your snake will eventually start to settle down and not squirm as much.

My bp is 3 months old and seems to like getting out of his cage now but for the first 6 weeks I had to get him out of his hide. Now when I open the tank he comes into my hand or even sometimes goes up my arm! Usually they get used to it!

Well, they will never 'like' you, but they will learn to tolerate handling and use it as a chance for exploration and movement. They may also associate you as a non-dangerous individual, but they don't really have the same emotional output as humans and won't emotionally feel anything other than fear or contempt with you.

I have noticed balls become more contempt with handling over time and as they age. Just give it some time and little handling sessions. :]

Yeah, they'll never "like" you. No snake really ever will. They might get used to handling but your bp might just never take to it. Some snakes will be more relaxed than others.

Yes. Eventually he/she will tolerate you, but probably not like you in the human sense. I think they get used to it over time, and learn to relax as they get older.

Re: Will my Ball Python ever like me

BOth of mine are babies and I know exactly what you are talking about. My BCI is a baby but as far as I know "Likes" to come out. He is very active, tongue flicking and likes to expolre, but my baby ball (im getting used to using ball python now) just seems to sit them like "yeah look at me" but doesn't move as much. I think just in general BCIs are more active, well as babies I have found anyway.
