Possible RI

Hi Guys,
I am trying not to panic, but what are the symptoms of an RI in BP's. My new 680 g. pastel female has what seems to be like saliva coming out the side of her mouth. I am afraid that she might have gotten a chill this weekend. It was chilly Saturday on Long Island and the hall was a little on the cool side where the show was held. My temps in the rack is 94 during the day at the heat tape site and down to 85 at night. Also she is on shredded cypress that is relatively damp, should I move her to paper towels with less humidity? What antibiotics are used for treating RI's in BP's and at what dose?

Symptoms of an RI include drooling, mucous or bubbles around the nose and mouth, clicking or popping when the snake breathes.

85* isn't really enough to give the snake an RI.

If your snakes are in tubs I would suggest switching to paper towels so you can see any possible mucous smeared around. Also makes for a cleaner environment. You can spot messes faster and such.

I wouldn't leave the snake on damp substrate. That could cause scale rot.

I am not sure on the dosage but baytril is a commonly used antibiotic for RI's.

"saliva" coming out of the mouth is never good....unless it just took a drink.

You may need a vet visit, but make sure you get vet references before you go to one. Some vets will only make it worse.

Please get it checked out by a vet, but to ease your fears, my BP often drinks from his bowl, then dribbles water everywhere and smears his wet face up against the side of the tub. I don't know why, but I've watched it happen several times in the few weeks I've owned him.

I also suggest going to the vet if you fear it might be RI. From what I hear, it can go bad really fast.

Here's the vet list recommended by this forum which includes LI (not sure where in LI you are but it's pretty much near the center. At most an hour drive)
