Karma is what it is!
So I pulled my mojave boy from My females tub, so he could shed and I am doing 3 days in 3 days out. I planned on putting him back in tomorrow depending on what answers I got from my "mojave boy is blue " thread. Tonight I put my Poss het pied boy in just get his scent in the tub, to hopefully motivate my mojo boy to get r done! Well not 10 minutes later I went to get him back out and well of course not only has he courted her but he has locked with her. A perfect text book lock, I couldn't believe it! Well I have just decided that it must be meant to be, and since this is just my first attempt at breeding I am just going to go with it and take what the cosmos has decided to give me!

Congrats on the lock! A good tip for the future - if you want to get the scent of another male in the female's tub, take a sperm plug from another male and just put it on her back.

I do that as well as take my male's sheds, tear them in a few pieces and divide the pieces between the girls' tubs. Makes it a little messy, but seems to help....

Now if you get a clutch you could end up with BELs or just mojaves and normals but there is no way to know if they are going to carry the 50% het pied because you mixed co-dom with the recessive.
If you start to pair up a female with a co-dom dont throw in any recessive males because it can muddy up the waters a bit and make it difficult to know who the daddy is.

Since your male is a possible het, are you willing to hold them all for proving?
Seems like alot of work just to get more possible hets.
Especially when there's a mojo male to make more mojo's

Re: Karma is what it is!
Well here is the deal, I am going to try the mojo man again after he sheds, as it is early in the season. This is my first time attempting to breed and as of right now I have only 1 girl and 3 boys. What ever the babies are I will be keeping girls only. Either Mojave or any normals that show the het pied tail stripes. The poss het pied boy is my 10 yr.old daughters pet so he is not going anywhere. If I am going to get into breeding I will need some normal girls anyway, and the plus side is that mom is a SAVAGE un-picky eater, and so is poss. het pied boy and my mojo man. They all eat F/T rats and have never missed a meal. The boys get 1 small rat every 7 to 10 days and she gets a med. rat every 5-6 days. My point being that the babies should be great eaters, which is VERY important to me. Having been just a pet owner who did everything right with some balls that didn't eat was very frustrating. Those 2 original animals were placed with someone who breeds there own food. I firmly feel that everything is genetic and good eaters make good eaters. And that, that is a trait that should be bred for in our animals, high end morph or normal. JMHO.
Thanks,
Mike Kelly

Eating is not genetic. They will not eat if they are stressed. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I will give you that if in fact they are stressed out they won't eat, but I will respectively disagree with you that good eating is not genetic. Ask anyone who breeds western hogs and they will agree. Good eaters make good and dare I say even better eaters.
