what kind of lizard should i get?
ok well me and my dad were talking aboiut christmas lol and he told me what i wanted so he can put money to the side for it. i was thinking what would make a great-handalable 1st lizard pet. so no geckos lol i want it to be n the range of about 0-300$. and since we dont have any breeders here in cicero(alcapone ftw =] lol) should i get 400$ in a petco gift card? or in one of those prepaid visa or mastercard cards that you can get in like cvs or something, and then buy it from some of you breeders out there

Get it from a breeder, not a pet store.
Also, be sure to do A LOT of research before you even think about what to buy. Don't do something you will regret a few months down the line.
Probably crested geckos, leopard geckos, or bearded geckos will be the best.
For every 15-foot python out in the Everglades, there are thousands of species of clams, trees, cats, grasses and birds that are wrecking just as much havoc across the globe. So, for all the headaches the snakes are causing, I at least applaud them for being scary enough to get people's attention.

I'm not sure what a bearded gecko is, but a bearded dragon or a leopard gecko would be good choices.
The ideo of checking your local shelters (try petfinder) and rescues and local herp societies is a good one. Craigslist is another.
Save some serious $$$ by avoiding the petstores and breeders and just rescue or get from craigslist. Do your homework and find out what you'll need as far as a cage and light and heat and food. Petstores will gladly help seperate you from your $$$. They often have no clue what the needs of the critter are. They just want to sell you stuff. They figure you'll figure out what you REALLY need, and within a few weeks will come back and buy even more stuff! Best to just skip them altogether...
A bearded is going to be a littler harder to keep than a leo. Larger adult size, specific UVB and heat needs mean more upfront cost and long term cost.
