    Question Rats:Snakes Ratio

Just out of curiosity, how many breeder rats(not including mice) (particularly females) do you have per snake.

For instance, I have about one female rat for each snake - 18 snakes:17 female rats.

Just want to see if anyone else uses this ..method (?) If not do you have a "method" on how many breeder rats you need for a large snake collection.

I don't have a method per se. If I am producing more than I use, then its good. If not, add more. Rocket science eh?

I still havent produced enough to feed my collection. We have held back every female we have ever produced. And just fed off most of the males. But I only started with three tubs of of 1.3

    Re: Rats:Snakes Ratio

Only one snake, but I breed rats extremely small scale because they are really expensive here. Only one breeding pair of rats and she wont be bred again for another 3 months lol(huge litter last time).

    Re: Rats:Snakes Ratio

I heard a good number is 1 female rat per snake but it all comes down to how many offspring the females give birth too. Plus, how many rats are you willing to care for?

Right now I have a lot in the freezer, but being ahead is better than not having enough!

    Re: Rats:Snakes Ratio

I have only 2 Freedom Breeder racks for rodents--a number that can never go up. I had 4 levels of mice, and the rest were rats, but I cut back to 3 levels of mice, because I need more rats now, and the hatchlings are all switching to rats. Most of my snakes are on F/T
