    Henry the Bee help

Ok...my new baby (on my avatar) is sooooooooooo different from my normal personality wise. He is a HUGE scardey cat!!! He is about 40 days old now. Has a 10 gallon aq., 83 cool side 90 warm side. 50% humid (i know it is low...Im working on it). He has a warm hide and a cool hide lots of fake plants, a basking area, and his cage is full so he doesnt feel it is too big. He eats like he crazy man....no problems there. In fact I think if I kept offering him more....he would continue taking it. He is really a piggy!! ( and I do not handle him 48 hours after a feed)

Here is the problem.....He shakes constantly if we come to over to his enclosure. When we walk away he stops. Very timid!! He is coming out at night and stays in his hides during the day which is normal. I have taken him out a few times for short periods. If you are holding him...he balls. I try to put him down and he will crawl around and if we are really slow....he will stay un-balled when we pet him.

Do you think I just need to give him more time to get use to us? The shaking thing is really kind of freaking me out. (Also he shows no signs of an RI)

I just had such an easy time w Elizabeth as far as her being comfy with us. In fact she is a not a normal ...normal. She enjoys being out with us more than in her cage.

Okay guys...thank you for your input.

    Hi,

Well the balling up when handled should pass as he gets more used to you.

As you said the lil fella is only 40 days old.

Can you describe the shaking more though? Is it just heavy breathing or could it be just the spider wobbles?

It really looks like the wobbles that I have seen however when he calms down it stops. When he is tooling around on us he does't have it however when we first come over to him he has it or when we look in his cage he gets it. When we walk away it stops as well.

    Re: Henry the Bee help

the shaking... is it like a head tilt, or a shiver or a wobble?

When my big girl struck her tub really hard, she seemed like she was shivering (i assume from shock and probably pain, i felt terrible ). But, spiders and their related morphs (bees, etc) can have what is known as the wobbles or the shakes. It can manifest as something as simple as a head tilt (my big spider female does this on occasion, especially if she's excited) to more severe shaking, to literal corkscrewing (i have seen this in person).

im trying to find a video but its being difficult today

    Re: Henry the Bee help

My new spider (around 2.5 months old) has a slight wobble, which is more noticeable when he's "excited" or nervous... he's a pretty outgoing snake, though, so I notice it mostly when feeding or letting him roam free. It's just a slight shake - no offense intended, but it's kind of like a human with Parkinson's disease. Anyway, since the bee morph is part spider, I'd guess that is what your boy is doing. From what I hear it's not a big deal, as long as they're eating and pooping/peeing normally. As for the shyness, that should get better with time and patience. My babies are still pretty shy, but seem to getting more confident with every handling session. Keep at it!

It is like a shiver like he is cold or like a person that is scared. Only his head too. No corkscrew at all.

However he isn't the most graceful snake yet. A little clumsy still....seems like maybe he just isnt as strong as my other yet. But we are chalking that up to his age.

That definitely sounds like a wobble to me... I've never (yet) seen Vinnie "corkscrew" but his wobble is obvious, so they can have one without the other. And it is usually just the head, although occasionally I will see his upper body shake too.

Vinnie is also rather clumsy, and a bit weaker than my other hatchlings (about the same age/size). So maybe there's a connection between that & the wobble? He seems like a happy little guy regardless, and has an awesome feeding response... hoping that means there's nothing to worry about!

Definately sounds like a wobble. My guy does it a bit when we first get near him or when there is a mouse in his tank before he eats. He stops after he calms down. I've read that nervousness can cause it to be exaggerated.

i agree, it sounds like a typical spider wobble. it definitely seems to be exacerbated in times of stress or excitement though with a lot of these animals.
