    i wonder how many are truly new species, and how many are just mutants caused by China's horrendous pollution issues and the fact that they don't seem to care if they are screwing up the environment.

    Re: Fanged frog and 162 other new species discovered

    Woah, fanged frogs. I'm sure many of them ARE new species--frogs don't just recognize birds as food out of nowhere. I doubt they woke up one day and said "Hey! Cool! I got me some fangs so now I'll go out and eat birds!" ^^;;;

    But it's also likely that certain "species" may have indeed been caused by pollution--we had an example of it here in the US a few years ago. Weird frogs with no eyes, extra legs, two heads, whathaveyous were popping up in lakes and ponds all over the place and it was due to some weird chemical people thought was safe to dump.

    China's history of just struggling to survive is deeply ingrained into the culture--when you have eight younger brothers and sisters at home with a sick father, you don't think about "oh, wow, I'm killing the environment." Once the country stabilizes, it, like all the rest, will start moving towards environmentalism, especially with pressure from other countries. You have to remember that countries like China with political instability (the cultural revolution being less than a century ago) will be slower in development than one that knows exactly where it's at.
    Watch and wait; a hapless creature has wandered in wake of my growing hunger. My oh my, don't you look tasty?
    Hey traveler, what do you know of wolves?

    All that's scaly and reptilian, all that's furry and mammalian, all that swims in the sea, all that flies in the sky--I love each and every one of these precious creatures.

    Re: Fanged frog and 162 other new species discovered

    Oh wow that's amazing!

    It's frustrating to think that one of those animals could hold a cure for a disease we are trying to cure. Hopefully something can be done to save all of these creatures and all the others that we don't even know about.

    I was watching planet earth the other day (I record it) and they were showing cave creatures that have only been found in ONE cave. It's pretty amazing to think of all the places that have yet to be discovered and all the creatures that have yet to be cataloged. One of the cave creatures was a fish that could live in sulfuric acid!!!! The water was so contaminated with sulfuric acid that the camera men were losing their gear because it was melting and here are these fish just swimming around in it!!! If that's not evolution I don't know what is!

    you act like that's a valid excuse. China has existed as a country for how long? how much longer should we give them to clean up their act?

    Well, consider for a moment that China was deliberately kept in poverty for well over a century for the sake of English imperialism, then went entirely to heck after WW2, is STILL a deeply troubled country where towns outside of the major provinces may not even have access to running water, and then rethink your statement.
