    Could she be gravid?

I recently adopted two ball pythons from a person locally. Well needless to say they were not to familiar with snake husbandry and kept them both in a 55 gallon aquarium. Well I fed them both and they both ate fine and I sexed them turned out they were male and female. The male even had a sperm plug. Anyways, they havn't shown any sign of aggression and both have shed since I got them about two weeks ago. I've held the female many times and it never hissed or struck. Well today I reached in and the female acted a bit skiddish, and kept hissing at me? Could she be gravid? How method could I use to check. She doesn't seem much bigger from the time that I got her. Thanks for your time.

Id say you just surprised her.

Do you have them separated now?

Yes they are seperated. I do my normal routine. I her in the 55 gal for right now and the male in a 20 gal. Anyways I do what I normally do. Didn't move fast, and when she hissed at me I waited a second and tried picking her up again. She hissed they entire time I held her. Which wasn't more then a minute because I didn't want to get bite.

    Re: Could she be gravid?

She could be stressed about being in the 55 gallon.

Like I said, she was surprised, or just didn't feel like being held.

Hissing is not a sign of being gravid.

    Ovulation, bowl wrapping, building....

Those are signs of being gravid.
