Pretty sure its an RI.
So I posted before that I was moving and I am finally in my new apartment on the other side of the states. I kept all my bps in pillow cases in a box and tried to keep them as warm as possible this whole trip, but I am fairly certain one has an RI. It isn't just mild either she seems bloated and every breath she takes I can hear clicking and her struggling. I've opened her mouth and it is filled with mucous and bubbles. I just moved here and I don't know any vets or what to do. Sigh almost everything that could go wrong with my snakes did this move.

I'm sorry that your move did not go very well. Everything you have described is tell tale signs of an RI. Make a trip to the Vet ASAP! It's very important to treat this as quickly as possible.
Good luck. Keep us posted.

Hi,
If you give people a rough guide on your location they may be able to recommend a good herp vet?
In the mean time check out these sites to see if they list any close to you;

Re: Pretty sure its an RI.
We just moved to Provo, Utah. I spoke with a few people and have an idea for a vet. The big problem we have now is that we are a young couple that just moved almost entirely across the country and are now broke. We are freaking out because this is our first snake and we don't really know what to do with our financial situation.

Re: Pretty sure its an RI.
I had a friend that learned how to do some sort of injection at home. It was a form of antibiotic that he picked up from a farm supply type store. I am not condoning this, but he seemed to know what he was talking about. Has anyone heard of anyone using this technique?

Shoot a private message to a member here named SatanicIntention. (Weird name...but nice girl!) She's a vet tech and may have some good advice for you.

Re: Pretty sure its an RI.
O dear god I am relieved now. I called my parents and they were really understanding about it and are paying for a vet visit. Now I know for sure that one has it, but she was kept in a box (in separate pillow cases) with all my other snakes for the trip. I am going to assume for safety's sake that they all have it. If this is the case would it be possible to only bring one in for the vet to be certain it is an RI and then possibly give me the antibiotics needed for me to do my own injections? I know a few people in the area who may be able to do the injections, but if it would be possible I would not mind learning on my own.

The med's from the vet is called baytril it is an enjection every other day for 10 days. I have not had good luck with these med's. The farm supply store has Duramycin-10 it is tetracycline it works good although it is a process to use. Good luck!

Is it a difficult process to learn? Thanks everyone so much for your help. This has been an incredibly stressful week ontop of everything happening with the snakes.

Re: Pretty sure its an RI.
Hi,
I would phone the vet in advance and ask if he wants to see all of them or only the one you are certain is sick.
I would also ask his opinion on doing a culture first to make sure the right drugs for the specific infection get used first time. He might not think it's worth it but then again if you are treating them all then having to try three courses of drugs could get expensive.
Best to ask I think.
