My final class saw the snake eat!
I am an eighth grade Science Teacher and we have been in school for 4 weeks now. Every week a different class gets to watch the BP eat a live mouse. I have four classes, so they have all watched now. They absolutely love the experience and it has done wonders in the amount and quality of work my students have given me during the week! I feed the snake on friday and on tuesday only the best behaved class from monday gets to handle the snake. This has been a tremendous success. For any teachers out there, a classroom pet is a great assistant.

Kudos. Part of the reason I grew up to love reptiles so much was because one of my 4 sixth grade teachers. He had garter snakes, a king snake, newts, salamanders, birds, a bearded dragon, a hedgehog, rats, turtles, and an electric catfish. I remember that the albino cali kingsnake was my favorite.
I love programs like this because it gives kids the option to grow up and be a reptile fan instead of adults choosing that fate for them.

I love to do things to peak their interest. Last year, I built all the science techers rocket launchers so the kids could design their own rockets and use the scientific method over several trials to get them to fly higher. Anything to promote learning is worth it,

Hey! I'm a fellow science teacher as well. I teach high school Chemistry and Biology. I've done similar things with my classes in the past when I had one of my BPs in the classroom. I'm getting my BPs ready for the breeding season so I don't have one in the classroom right now.
Incidentally I was inspired to become a teacher by my high school Biology teacher. He had a classroom full of reptiles and fish. I now teach in the very classroom that inspired me at my alma mater!

I can relate. My 9th grade Biology teacher inspired me to become a Scientist. It was years in the making, however, since I dropped out in the 10th grade and didn't go to college until I was 28. I taught seventh grade Science for 2 yrs and that was the grade I failed!!!lol. I hope that I can inspire these kids to stay in school and aspire to greatness instead of settling for mere existance. I work on the Texas/Mexico border and education is not very important to many, here. I love to teach, and I am learning to love BP's more and more.

Kids respond better to something like that. A classroom pet of some sort. Though I would figure a lot of kids would be scared of snakes. As due to the bad reputation the receive.
