    Normal Males useless for breeding?

    I was reading somewhere that a male normal would be rather useless for breeding, unless you plan to have a collection of normals; is there any particular reason, why a normal male is more useless than a normal female? Thanks for clearing this up.

    I would say that morph males are cheaper than morph females and thats probally why its like that. I actually own 2 normal males(one which i now seem to share). But to be honest I have them because i like their patterns, In my opinion a good looking snake is a good looking snake whether its a normal or anything else. But in the business world its alot cheaper to mix a male morph(which is cheaper)x normal female and get the same result as male(normal) x female morph(more expensive)

    Re: Normal Males useless for breeding?

    Males are less expensive than females--you can purchase a morph male for perhaps $75 these days. In a pet store, normal balls cost $60 or even more in some cases.

    One male can fertilize up to 3 females in his first year of breeding, and even more as he reaches his full size. Males breed around age 1. Females need 3 years to grow to adult size.

    Because of all these factors, adult females are quite valuable. You can place one morph male with a half a dozen normal females, and get around 18 morphs in your clutches. So, the perception is that placing a normal male with morph females would be a huge waste--you could have gotten a morph male for very little more money, and gotten back a huge return on the investment, as opposed to the much smaller return from using a normal male. It seems a waste of potential income to use a normal male with a morph female. She can only be paired once each year. The male can be paired with many females.

    Ah, now I see, why you should get female normals and male morphs. Thanks everyone.

    @Beto510

    Yes I just bred my first blue piebald, but it's not for sale right now.

    if a new morph from the wild needs to be proven and happens to be a female then i could see another use of a normal male.
