    Exclamation Breeding 101

    Hey guys,

I've got a male Norm. (Just found that out) That we'd like to breed. Is there a breeding 101 page or book for BP's I should read? Ive been looking through alot here and seem to be getting great info.

I need to fins a place to learn more about morphs and genetics. Any pointers there would be great too

Also is there any certain kind of BP like pinstriped that would give me different offspring with my store bought norm? I know there's alot to learn more to learn but I hope to join you guys in the world of AWSOMENESS!

Well, I'm sure the BP breeders and the people who know about BP breeding on here would answer any questions you may have. When I had questions about breeding I always got an answer.

Also, there are many different morphs you can breed with your normal to get different morphs besides the normal, but you gotta remember that the weight is very important when wanting to breed, especially for the females. IMO, the weight is the most important thing you want in the female when breeding.

First decide what morphs you like and would want to breed. Learn a bit about thier genetics, co doms recessives etc. Then get a couple of babies and get them set up properlly. Now you have at least 2 years to raise your babies and get them to breeding size and gain some experience. In that 2 years you can do alot of reading and talk to alot if people to get the knowledge you need before you decide to breed them. You also have 2 years to have yourself financially set to prepare for new babies, housing , an incubator etc.

    Re: Breeding 101

I've got no problem waiting for a couple years. It seems like i've learned a lot but I know theres a lot more to understand. Just one more thing.. I'm going to check out these books I've just learned about.
Do you think it would be a bad idea to keep 2 snakes in a huge enclosure? My Male is about 8 months old but we're also looking into getting a F pastel (if it's the same as a Jungle Pastel) thats only a few months old.

Would it matter since the tanks so big?
And is a Pastel and Jungle Pastel the same snake?

    Thanks guys

NEver a good idea to keep 2 bps together, especially M/F. They can breed early by some freak occurence and you can lose your female because she wasnt up to size yet.

As far as pastel and pastel jungle goes, if the pastel jungle is a proven line then no it is not the same, it's got a funkier pattern than regular pastels ( I think)

Good luck in your endeavours and brush upon the wealth of knowledge that this site offers before you dive into anything. Be able to answer the most basic question..."Why do you want to breed?"

If you need the reasons why you shouldn't keep two new snakes together, I can get you those.

One of the BIGGEST reasons is QUARANTINE. If i take the time i usually do to explain that, I'll be late for work so i'll get it to you when i get home this afternoon.

Research will answer ALL your questions. The VPI book, Pythons of the World Volume 2 is a great place to start.
