Hmm, I guess I won't need that separate container anymore.

I've always fed Candice (female BP) in a separate container, and never once had fed her in the enclosure. Today was different. She knows when it's feeding day when I take out the water dish for 10 mins (takes about 10 mins or so to completely clean out and scrub all the water dishes). So, today I took out all the water dishes and scrubbed them (scrub on feeding day before I feed, change water every other day) and Candice usually pokes her head and neck out of her hide and waits for her water dish. Once I put it back, she takes a long drink, then sits back into that position. After I put the water dish back I was putting all of the other water dishes back then I begin to spot clean.

I took Candice out of her cage so I could spot clean and handle her just a tiny bit before I feed her. When I took her out, I noticed that she was flickering her tongue a lot more and I knew she was searching for the food. So I put her back and 5-10 minutes later I come back to take her out once more to feed her. This time when I lifted the hide she sprung out and immediately knew she was going to be fed. I couldn't go in and put her in the separate container so I just decided to feed her in the enclosure. So, I'm guessing that just means no more separate container. I had a feeling I was going to have to feed her in the enclosure sometime soon anyway.

Yeah, i gave up feeding in seperate enclosures mos. ago. i actually think they have a much greater feed response now for sure and their docility hasn't changed a bit either as far as taking them out and being struck at. i let my rats sit in the room to pre-scent for a bit so they know food is coming. They're only in feed mode when that happens. They don't associate the tubs being pulled out with dinner time except when i have pre-scented. life is so much easier i think
