    Herp Deliveries

I just bought another snake the other day. I feel like I should be going to some type of meeting... I found out that they will be delivering through Fed-Ex. I live in a small town and the place I work at gets a lot of deliveries from both Fed-Ex, and UPS. We happened to be getting one from Fed-Ex about 2 hours after I ordered the snake. I went up to the delivery driver, and told her that I would be getting a new snake, and to keep an eye out for it, and to not be rough with it. She looked at me, and said, "Another one? How many is this?" I said, "This will make 14 in the house." She gave the "I'm creeped out" shake, and said that she would keep an eye out for it. She has even given me her cell number in case I do not see her, and I need her to know about something coming, or arrange an alternate delivery point.

I don't think I would have gotten this response from the UPS driver. We call him Shifty, as he always looks up to no good. He also leaves any delivery just sitting on the back porch. Sometimes he doesn't even knock on the door. I hate to even talk to the guy for more than the time it takes to sign the pad.

Do any of you announce to your drivers that you have a new shipment coming in? Do you avoid telling them in fear that they will refuse deliveries because they hate the animals, or think it is against company policy? Anybody get their drivers interested in Herps?

I have a UPS account and ship out several thousand packages out a year. My UPS driver is a great guy.
I don't really talk to any FedEx drivers since I only get in FedEx packages once every couple months. The few brief comments have always been pretty nice though.

I hate when they do that.

I once had a box of Ammo left on my porch... It needed an adult signature.
I was not happy with UPS after that.

yes thats a no no but if they have your signature on file they technically can just leave it. i had to do that with fedex because they wouldnt even stop i would be sitting on the porch waiting and it would say they attempted delivery. and for what its worth i still see that online it will say delivered yet there wouldnt be anyone here so i think my guy was doing it when he got behind.

    Re: Herp Deliveries

I always have my snakies delivered to a FedEx office nearby, and I pick it up there. I do talk to the people there about the snakes, though. It was hilarious when they first found out I was receiving snakes. One lady went to pick up the box while the other started the paperwork. As the first lady came over with the box, she asked if it was frozen rodents. I said there were snakes in it. She froze right where she was. The other lady laughed and said, "I think maybe I should take the box now!" Well, curiosity finally got the better of the snake-phobic lady, and they both asked to see them. I opened the box and showed them to her (a male Axanthic and a female het). The phobic lady was impressed with how good they behaved and how cute they were.

Now, every time I go to pick up a snake, they both can't wait to see it!

    Re: Herp Deliveries

I had a UPS driver refuse to take our 35 lb sulcata tort because he was afraid it might get out and get him . I had to wait until the next day when our regular driver came back to work and the other driver almost lost his job . it was already paid for and the pick up was scheduled 3 days in advance because of my schedule. when I got done screaming at the people in the office they put me in contact with a supervisor who handled the whole thing and even called to make sure it was picked up the following day. so all in all a good ending. now I just bring them to UPS myself so they wont get screwed with.
