    What would you do?

This is going to be my first try at breeding ball pythons. I have a female het clown that is around the 1300g mark and should be ready to breed this season.

What I'm torn about is I've got a male het clown that will also be ready to breed as soon as she will be with no problem, but I've recently acquired a male pastel het clown. The pastel het clown is just over 100g may be up to 150g now.

Would you go ahead and breed the het clown male to the female ASAP, or would you hold out and wait for the pastel het clown to get up to breeding size?

Note: The pastel het clown has been an awesome feeder so far.

    Re: What would you do?

IF the .1 het Clown makes breeder size before November, I would pair her with the Normal male het Clown and take a shot at making a visual Clown or two.

If you get a 1. Clown, you can run him on some other females next season and produce CoDom 100%het Clowns, and DH's. You can also back up your 1. Pastel het Clown with him.
If you get a .1 Clown you can raise her up and breed her to your 1. Pastel het Clown to produce Pastel Clowns, unless you have made one by that time.

I agree, No need to wait/waste a season.

I don't want to waste a season either....

I was just thinking maybe a late season and wait on the pastel het clown. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's ok to wait and have a little bit of a late season.

Go with Pastel. You will have to wait till maybe Feb or March but is it not worth getting better looking babies?

    Re: What would you do?

I would wait til about mid december, all while feeding the pastel and hoping on a lucky star he was big enough to go, I would try then to see if he is big enough to get everything working like need be, if not I would pair the reg het to the female, and keep trying and hoping with the pastel het until she ovulates.

I know from experience how bad it sucks to hold off on breeding a girl in hopes a male will get big enough, especially if he doesn't get big enough and the girl decides not to go while waiting for him.
