    Alterna Market?

    Hey all,

I'm currently looking for some projects to work on, and I have always loved alterna.

Does anyone have any idea how strong the market is for alterna? I see on kingnsnake that they go from anywhere from about $50-$250 for babies. But the sheer quantity of ads is very low, usually around 10 only which tells me supply/demand both may be down. Thoughts?

Just curious, thanks in advance for any replies!

    Chris

    Re: Alterna Market?

Alterna enthusiasts are often very picky about localities and purity, and that sort of thing. Locality specific babies will often fetch a very high price, while the generics go for a bit less. One thing is for sure though, if you take a good looking grayband to a show for sale, and it is feeding well on rodents they draw attention like mad! I used to see them everywhere at pet shops when I was young. Now you never see alterna anywhere except a few at a show and often times, half of them are lizard feeders. They are hard to start at times because they prefer to eat lizards and often need to be convinced and tricked to take pinkies, a process that can be time consuming and difficult to achieve without losing a baby or two. So when you factor in the locality specific craze, and the fact that babies are harder to start than many other snakes I can see how that would cause both the supply of these snakes and the demand for them to fall, but at the same time, raise the prices!
