    being unemplyed sucks!

For the ones that dont already know I have been out of work since april 17th 2009! And I have sent my resume and filled out applications to pretty much every business for about 30-40 miles away from me. (excluding fastfood). Well I finally thought I found the perfect job the description and everything sounded great. It was for a forklift driver in a cold storage warehouse. Well I send an email to the lady and speak with her and it sounds great I tell her my experience she asks if I know how to operate forklifts I told her im certified with sitdowns, standups, and cherry pickers. She says great. She asks me if I have worked in freezers before and I told her at csc we had a HUGE freezer that we stored all of our vaccines and cold drugs. Me and sarah ran that freezer so I had to spend a lot of time in there cleaning it and sorting threw all the drugs to make sure nothing expired and if so to remove it before sending it out. And I had to spend numerous hours every week stocking it. So all in all I spent alot of time in the freezer. Well Im so exicted that I might finally have a job and be able to get out of the house and she calls me today and tells me that they do not want to interview me but wouldnt tell me they didnt want to interview me! I couldnt believe that because she sounded so promising threw all the other emails and phone calls. And then all the sudden I wasnt even allowed an interview! I am going crazy being at all home all day everyday. And theres so many things I would like to add to the collection that I just dont have the funds for right now being unemployed! Im going to die soon if I dont have a hypo burm lol. Sorry for the rant lol I just dont understand some people

    Re: being unemplyed sucks!

I know that it sucks, I was unemployed for a full year after 9-11. My company cut worldwide employees from 90K to down to 40K.

Here's what I did. I registered with as many temp agencies as I could who hired for the type of positions that I was looking for. I networked with people (look to see if there's a meeting at a local church, specifically geared towards job hunting and networking). I had one day a week that I looked forward to as my "reward" for all my job hunting - and that was doing weekly outings with Canine Assistants every Wednesday night. It would be a group of volunteers that would meet up at 5, get the dogs bathed, packed up with their "Please don't pet me, I'm working" packs, and go out for dinner, or go to a movie, etc.

I called every temp agency that I was registered with every Monday, and I made at least 5 calls a day to other jobs that I would find advertised.

One day I got a call from a head hunter for the position that I'm in now. My unemployment benefits ran out the Friday before the new job started. Talk about timing!

Try to stay positive, I know how hard that can be. Do NOT beat yourself up over rejections, it's not about you - there's a of people competing for the same jobs, unfortunately. Follow up after every interview with a hand written thank you note for their time, and reiterate how excited you are at the prospect of working there.

    The right job will come!
