    New Beardie Owner Questions

Are crickets and veggies the only thing you can feed the babies? Or can you feed them the silkworms when they are young too (I read that you can feed them that as adults).

Also, do they need a basking spot at night? Or do I turn the lamp off then?

And, last but not least, will they eat dead crickets or are they picky like snakes and probably only going to eat live? I was thinking about buying the dead already dusted ones, and if he didnt eat them we could try the vibrator thing...but Im not sure.

    Re: New Beardie Owner Questions

I have given my juvenile dragons silk worms. Just make sure they are small enough. Do not give them anything bigger then the space between their eyes. Do not give them those dried crickets. Do not use any type of night light on the dragons. If the night temp drops below 68 purchase one of those ceramic heat elements. Here is a link to a very useful site

I meant, essentially, do they need a basking spot during the night? (red/blue light)

Also, should I buy crickets everyday? Or should I get a cricket keeper thing? And if I should get a cricket keeper, how do I take care of the crickets so that they live until they are eaten?

    Re: New Beardie Owner Questions

They do not need a basking light at night.

I buy between 2000 - 4000 adult crickets a week and store them in a rubber maid container. All I do is cut a few potatoes up in to four section and they are fine. I also give them the middle section of the collard greens after I chop up the leafy part for the dragons. Nothing goes to waste. Do some of them die, of course they do. Keeping crickets sucks. If you only have one dragon and want to go to the store every day that is up to you but keeping a few dozen on hand should not be to bad. Just make sure they have plenty of ventilation. Cut a hole in the top of the lid and use screening to cover the hole.
