I have heard that platinums abd butters are the same. But i have also heard that although they look the same only true platinums can produce blue eyed leucistics and that butters have yet to do so. So who can set me straight

Platinums are not butters. I don't know how many true Platinums there are out there, but Ralph Davis has the father of them all. (He calls him the Platty Daddy.)
Butters can indeed produce BELs. Butters crossed with any of the other BEL co-dom morphs (Lessers, Mojaves, Russos, Phantoms*, and other Butters) produce BELs. I'm told Mochas also produce BELs, but I've only heard those mentioned once; I don't know anything else about them.
*Caveat: Super-Phantoms are not BELs.
Periodic Table Pythons - Quality, captive-bred pythons? It's elementary!
1.0 VPI Axanthic, 1.0 Genetic Stripe, 1.0 Red Axanthic, 1.0 Lesser Platinum, 1.0 50% Het Albino, 0.1 Albino, 0.1 Het VPI Axanthic, 0.1 Het Red Axanthic, 0.1 Het G-Stripe, 0.1 Woma, 0.1 Mojave, 0.1 Normal.

There's a hidden gene to Plattys, lesser to lesser or butter to butter produces BELS. But a lesser to a hidden gene carrier will make Plattys- been done now 2 years running in Germany with a lesser male to a normal looking (hiddden Platty gene carrier) female.
