Obese snake and cage size.
I got a new snake today, we really only paid for the 8ftx2ft enclosure she came with so the rehab she will need isn't that big of a deal to me. The girl broke up with her boyfriend and broke her hand and the landlord was coming to inspect the house so the snake had to go. She just couldn't care for the snake by herself and the landlord didn't know about it. The snake has a beautiful temperament so once she is fixed up I think she will be good for animal demos.
The red tail is about 4years old, has what look like burns from the open heat light in the tank, wounds from live prey, and is very overweight. The cage was full of dry dusty substrate and there was no water bowl. They have had her and a ball for a couple months, they said the people they got her from were feeding her a large rabbit every week. She is so overweight, she actually has fat rolls which I have never seen that bad on a snake. She is roughly 9ft and feels like she weighs more than 60 pounds. I thought it was a burm till I walked closer, she is just massive. I am putting her on a major diet.
I am wondering if the cage is too big and I might have to have my step dad put a divider in it to make it a little shorter, she takes up less than a 1/6 of the tank curled up. It just looks too big and open for her.

Cage size is fine, gives her more room to move around, just put a water bowl and maybe a hide in it. As for the diet, I also have a slighty overweight
8 1/2' female boa, and I tried putting her on a little diet. Well she wasn't too happy about it and I got tagged pretty good on my left hand one day when i was going to take her out.
P.S. Lets see some pics!!!

Re: Obese snake and cage size.
I was really tired after moving her and her cage, so we didn't get pics yet.She has to stay in a slightly smaller cage for a couple days as I am having my stepdad install locks on her cage cause it closed with an hook and eye which I don't trust, and I want a couple upgrades done to it. Only one half opens so I want the other half to be made into a door. I literally had to crawl into the cage to get her out, and that's not safe with a snake that large. I will take pics once we get everything finished.
As for being cranky, I can deal with that as long as she gets healthier, I dont know if you have seen Gabriel Iglesias's comedy but she is way past Fluffy.

Pretty much, I got a weight on her today and she is 60 pounds, I used a string to measure her and even with out stretching the string at all it measured about 10ft and I know I stretched it a little when I was measuring her. So she is probably just over 10ft, I want to get a cloth tape measure to get a good measure later but I can't find the one I had. I didn't keep her out too long as she is pre-shed but I wanted to looked over the wounds she has from previous prey items , so we weighed her, put the string along her, checked her skin, snapped a couple pics and put her back in like less than 10 minutes. After she sheds I will get the better length measure and good pics.
