Herpstat running, Now to level out temps .. Help Please

So I just recently ordered a Herpstat ND. I got it up and running this morning, Set the thermostat to 95, controlling the UTH. Currently the probe is inside the tank, under the aspen bedding, on the warm side.

I also have 2 digital thermometers. They are both on the cool side, one with the probe under the substrate on the warm side, the other with the probe sitting on top of the substrate on the warm side.

The temprature readings I am getting are 75 on the cool side (I know, it was a cold night and I am working on getting the ambient temps up) 85 on top of the substrate on the warm side and 95 under the substrate on the warm side.

I understand that the temps are supposed to be 80-84 on the cool, and 90-95 on the hot. Also the reason that the Herpstat probe is inside the tank and not between the UTH and the glass is it would have to be set to nearly 110 to get the readings to 95 underneath the substrate, and Im not to comfortable with that.

I am considering switching to newspaper to eliminate the temp difference above and below the apsen bedding. What are everyones thoughts on getting things right for temps. any help would be great, tired of stressing out my baby with all the crazy temps.

oh and another thing, I do not have A/C just floor heaters. Have also considered switching to another room to maybe controll the temps better. Sorry for being so long, just getting frustrated because i dont want to harm my BP!

I measure the temp on the tub itself and not on top of substrate. I use newspaper myself. What are you using as a heating element?

Im using a 15 gal glass tank, a Zoo-Med UTH (bout 5x8 i think) connected to the Herpstat ND for heating. I have a IR 75 watt bulb (dont use it much, only when temps are way too low)

Put your bulb on a dimmer and use to help stable temps if the room is always cool!

yea that is what i use it for. the cool side temp is at 81-82. Thanks

Still unsure about the substrate and the difference of temp above an below it.

Hope that the room temp stabalizes. Im starting to think that the cold temps (75) were do to the lack of heating in the tank and all the entire temp dropping, making it take longer to warm everything back up.
