    boa shedding confusing?

My big male boa, Rev is confusing me with his frequent shedding. He is growing so I am figuring on a growth spurt. Is it normal for them to shed every 2-3 weeks if they are having a growth spurt? He just shed agian today, last time was on aug 5 and the time before that was only 2 weeks earlier. I got him in dec and up until now he shed every 2 months. And these are fast sheds. Usually it takes him 2 weeks to go through the stages from blue to shed this time was so quick I didnt even catch him in blue. I had him out and he just started shedding. I checked him over good and he has no skin irritations or bugs or anything either. This is the first large boa I have owned, so should I expect this from my young ones too?

Sounds a little off to me too. I'd check his temps and everything extra good. Is he soaking at all?

    Re: boa shedding confusing?

My 07 hog island female did this a few months back over a couple month period. Her over all shed cycle from going blue to actual shed didn't take quite as long. For her she would go blue for 1-2 days, go normal for 1-2 days go blue for another 1-2 days and possibly shed during this 5th or 6th day of being in and out of blue. And for a few months she shed once every 2-4 weeks or so. And she definitely did hit a major growth spurt. She went from being 3'6" and a little soft to 5'8" and nice toned solid muscle.
That's a lot of growing over a short period of time, so I don't think they really had a choice but to shed so often.

    Re: boa shedding confusing?

Oh and also are Rev's sheds coming off in one nice long piece, or at least close to it? If it's coming off in pieces then the humidity would definitely be off by a least a little bit.
Even through the growth spurts with my girl all of her sheds came off in one perfect single piece, including eye caps and all.
I've been collecting them to keep something of a growth record hehe, and it's fun to have a 6' snake shed hanging on my cubicle at work for other people to see and freak out about.

    Re: boa shedding confusing?

Everything is good and his sheds are coming off in one piece, exept yesterday. I had him out and didnt know he was goiing to shed and his shed ripped when he rubbed on something. So he shed his bottom 2/3 right there. He still had his head and neck to shed so I put him away to deal with that on his own.
I do think its his growth. In the last while he seems bigger to me. Ill weigh him soon.
