    Re: Nne
Hi i post here because the number of words is too excessive for description: Nne is Igbo word for "mother". This is a present for a special and wonderful person i have met 9 years ago in my holidays in Positano and given that he and his family love St Joseph's rod (Hibiscus syriacus) i wanted to add,as tribute to their family, this flower with typical western african flowers like Bloodflower (Asclepias curassavica) and Elaeodendron buchananii. Royal python, called éké,plays an important role in Igbo people (Nigeria) since it is considered a sacred agent of Ala and a harbinger of good fortune when found in a home,in Igbo language it is also called nne, mother, because it is a symbol of female beauty and gentleness. Ala is the female Alusi (deity) of the earth, morality, fertility and creativity in Odinani (traditional religious practises of Igbo people). She is the most important and the highest Alusi in the Igbo pantheon. As the foundation of all existence, children's umbilical cords are saved and symbolically buried under a tree to mark the child's first sharing of family owned lands,Ala is also connected to children and human fertiliy. Ala is responsible for guardianship of women and children in general that's why i depicted a baby with a coiled royal python. The python represents feminine nature of motherly love and it is imbued with all Igbo symbolism,if you look closely the snake is not agressive but calm and protective. The only negative mark is the lower part of the drawing where the two pink St. Joseph's rods are darker than the rest, this is due to the fact i had to scan the drawing in two parts because it's big and i forgot to adjust brightness >.
