Re: How Big is Your Red Tail Boa?

I have recently rescued a RTB who is about 5 years old & about 3 and 1/2 feet... He is a male. I am really hoping & wondering if his size will increase much if I feed him weekly. The previous owner wasn't on top of feeding as much as preferred.. But he is now on large rats & takes them happily. Does anybody know if his lack of food has lead to stunted growth & can this be reversed?? Thanks!

I haven't noticed any stunting of growth, boas will continue to grow their entire lives. Most of my collection is slow grown, some are 6 and just coming up on 5', males and females, some of the ones around the same age are larger. I usually top males off at medium rats to keep them closer to the 5' range and females at large or jumbo to get to 6' for a good, easy to manage size that is plenty big enough to handle litters every other year. Have 2 that are 14, both are probably a little over 6'. My biggest/oldest is below.

I adopted this girl, Autumn, in '98, she was 9 years old and was about 5.5'. The lady I got her from was the second owner and had full history. This was when I brought her home:

Currently she's approx. 8.5' long, so even though above she was 9 already, she continued to grow. She gets 2 f/t jumbo rats every 4-6 weeks. She had one litter in 2003 (34 babies, only time I bred her) and is an overall terrific boa!
This photo is from a few years ago, sorry for the mess

So as you can see, they will keep getting bigger even if they had a slow start.
    I hope that helps!

My largest is my 2011 Female Lipstick Sunglow BCI. She is a tad over 6 foot now (she is housed in a 6 foot long cage, so that makes measuring length easy!) and 12 ish pounds. She is fed one XL rat every 2 weeks.

I slow grow my boas, they are prone to many negative health issues from over feeding.

The rest of my bci are all over the place!
Even animals on the same exact feeding schedule grow at such different rates.

My female Columbian was just over 9ft and 10 years old when I rehomed her. Total sweetheart too. She was my oldest, and toughest to part with
